"All the pictures in this photo essay were taken in Landes, one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution. Formerly stagnant waters and marshes made up the landscape, and shepherds walked on stilts through the wet undergrowth. Today it is a place of European autumnal refuge, it is a few more days of summer. The towering trees stretch out across the linear coastline as the sun heats the tarmac."
